WOMEN AT LIBERTY Blog -7-14-11

WOMEN AT LIBERTY sends, via Facebook and Twitter, daily motivational messages to inspire you.  Click the link above to get the most current message or see below for the most popular message posted last week:
"We were in a position where my husband had been sworn into office during a very, very difficult time. There had been so much cover-up during Watergate that we wanted to be sure there would be no cover-up in the Ford Administration. So rather than continue this traditional silence about breast cancer, we felt we had to be public."

--Mrs. Betty Ford, First Lady of the United States (1974-1977), Wife of U.S. President Gerald R. Ford, Co-Founder of the Betty Ford Center (previously the Betty Ford Clinic), Breast Cancer Survivor

Leadership Tuesdays’ goal is to provide a platform for a variety of voices and resources to develop, encourage, and strengthen women leaders.

Leadership Tuesdays: Desire Over Fear...Sheryl Sandberg
“Don’t let your fears overwhelm your desire. Let the barriers you face—and there will be barriers—be external, not internal. Fortune does favor the bold. I promise that you will never know what you’re capable of unless you try."
--Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer of Facebook

Welcome back!  We are continuing our inaugural season of Leadership Tuesdays with an article featuring Sheryl Sandberg, the Chief Operating Officer at Facebook, written by Ken Auletta in The New Yorker entitled, “A Woman’s Place:  Can Sheryl Sandberg upend Silicon Valley’s male-dominated culture?”
The article, which is a very good read by the way, discusses not only Sheryl Sandberg’s history and her ascent to her current position at Facebook, but it also takes a look at her philosophy on women excelling in the workplace and the type of activities she is involved in to promote the next generation of women leaders. In addition, Ken Auletta does a wonderful job of presenting other points of view, sometimes opposing, on how…
