Quote of the Week from Liberty Ink "Quotables"

Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Noted Neurosurgeon

"No matter how many letters you have behind your name, don't start rearranging them to spell G-O-D."

Today, I spent some time in reflection.  I was actually looking for something I needed so I had to go through a pile of old papers.  It was refreshing to read through some letters, notes, and cards that friends and loved ones had sent to me over the years.  Reading through the notes and cards brought a smile to my face.

Do something today that will bring a smile to your face and the face of another person.  And...if you feel comfortable,  feel free to share your moment so we all can smile.

A Zealous Dallas Cowboys' Fan Display of Team Spirit: Kinda funny or in poor taste?

This past Sunday, September 12, marked the beginning of the 2010 - 2011 National Football League (NFL) Season for the Washington Redskins. Affectionately called "the Skins", the team started this season with a new Head Coach, Mike Shanahan and a new star quarterback, Donovan McNabb, formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles. Shanahan, is a Superbowl winning coach who most recently coached the Denver Broncos.  He expected to bring his Super Bowl winning ways to Washington.

The Redskins kicked off their season hosting the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday evening before a sold out crowd. The two most valuable teams in the NFL, according to Forbes, are one of the biggest, if not the biggest, rivalries in the NFL.

Each year Redskins Fans hope for a winning season. But if fate deals them a bad blow and they lose all their games but two, they pray those two winning games are against the Dallas Cowboys.

With that as a background, give me your opinion concerning this Dallas Cowboys fan's display of team spirit:

A Dallas Cowboys' fan was seen driving down the street Sunday evening before the game, with a stuffed animal dressed in a Redskins' jersey being dragged on a rope behind her two door black, late model Mercedes. Was this funny or was it in poor taste?

By the way, the Redskins beat the Cowboys, 13 - 7.

In Remembrance of 9/11/01

We remember, we pray for peace and we commit to love and liberty.

On September 11, 2001, I remember being at home and watching the morning network news program abruptly break their normal coverage and start broadcasting pictures of first plane's crash site at the World Trade Center, (North) Tower.  Then, while they were showing American Airlines Flight 11's crash site, United  Airlines Flight 175 flew into the second Tower.  It was utterly astonishing.  Next, United Airlines 77 crashed at the Pentagon.  It really did seem like America was under attack by a foreign army. Later, the news began reporting the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

I remember driving on Pennsylvania Avenue to my office in S.E. Washington, D.C. and seeing faint black clouds in the distance just beyond the U.S. Capitol Building.  Do you remember what you were doing?

Quote of the Week--Help Somebody

When you had the opportunity, did you help somebody?

" We should help people whenever we can, especially if they are followers of the Lord." Galatians 6:10 (Contemporary English Version)

The hands are so powerful for connecting...
Connect with someone today!

(Nickolas Ashford/Valerie Simpson)

Reach out and touch
Somebody's hand
Make this world a better place
If you can  (repeat)
(Just try)

Take a little time out of your busy day
To give encouragement
To someone who's lost the way
(Just try)

Or would I be talking to a stone
If I asked you
To share a problem that's not your own

We can change things if we start giving
Why don't you

If you see an old friend on the street
And he's down
Remember his shoes could fit your feet
(Just try)

Try a little kindness you'll see
It's something that comes very naturally
We can change things if we start giving
 Why don't you
