Special Blog: Motivational Moments & Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Dedication

8/26/11 UPDATE:  After consultation with the National Park Service and FEMA, the Washington DC Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation announced in a Press Conference on August 25 that the official Dedication Ceremony has been postponed in the interest of public safety and the expectation of Hurricane Irene scheduled to hit the Washington, D.C. metro area this weekend.  The Friday and Saturday morning Prayer Service will proceed as scheduled.  For more information, see:

Happy Thursday All!
I hope that you are getting a chance to really enjoy the last days of Summer.  Here in Washington, D.C., we are happy to report that we all survived the strongest earthquake to hit the area in 100 years. As one who grew up in California and has experienced earthquakes before, I have to admit that this was a pretty substantial event.
Additionally, our area is preparing for the official dedication of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial on this Sunday, August 28, which is also the 48th Anniversary of the 1963 March On Washington.  Are you coming?  The excitement meter is off the charts for this historic event and the city is welcoming guests and participants from near and far, including Former Atlanta Mayor and U.S. Ambassador Andrew Young, Roland Martin of CNN & TV One, Congressman John Lewis, Stevie Wonder, India Arie, Brian Williams of NBC, Soledad O’Brien of CNN, Gwen Ifill of PBS, Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., Latrice Pace, Shirley Murdock, and the lists goes on and on.
There are a hosts of events including a Public Expo at the Washington Convention Center, go to www.dedicatethedream.org to see how you can participate.  Join us in praying that Hurricane Irene will behave herself so that we can enjoy a beautiful day on the Mall.  The National Park Service and the King National Memorial Foundation has said that they will make a decision about the Dedication Events on Friday afternoon, so if you are planning to attend, check www.dedicatethedream.org for up-to-date details. You can also make donations, buy tickets to the Gala or buy memorabilia at this website.
Lastly, I have shared one of my cellphone pictures from an impromptu visit to the King Memorial on this past Monday evening, the official opening day.  I’ll post more pictures on Women History Makers-DC,MD, & VA Facebook page.  Also, I will be sharing a surprise about the Sunday events via Twitter this weekend so be sure to follow @womenatliberty or like the Women History Makers-DC, MD, & VA Facebook page.
